Short Sellers Looking Again at 3D Printing Stocks

Short interest during the two-week period ending November 30 rose on three of four 3D printing stocks we follow. The shares of all four companies continue to pull back from 2017 highs posted in May.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) rose by 1.6% to 36.69 million shares. Some 33.7% of the company’s float is short. Days to cover fell from 12 to eight. In the two-week short interest period, the share price rose by about 8.3%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $7.92 to $23.70, and shares closed at $9.51 on Monday, down about 0.2% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest rise by 6.3% in the final two weeks of November to about 9.6 million shares, or 19.3% of the company’s float. Days to cover rose from six to 16. The share price rose by about 6.1% in the period, and the stock closed at $20.94 on Monday, down about 1.6% on the day, in a 52-week range of $16.37 to $30.88.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) rose by 4.5% to 2.16 million shares. About 23.1% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price increased by about 8.3% in the two weeks. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.72 to $14.43, and shares closed at $10.40 on Monday, down about 5.5% for the day. Days to cover rose from 15 to 22.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 6% to 559,712 American depositary shares, with days to cover remained unchanged at six. Voxeljet dropped about 0.6% for the two-week period and closed at $5.11 on Monday, down just 0.2% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.61 to $6.37.
