Eminem’s Michigan Mansion Hits Market for $2 Million

August 19, 2017 by Douglas A. McIntyre

Rapper Eminem, also known as Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is a Detroit institution. His home, just north of the city in Rochester Hills, is for sale for $1.99 million.

The music star was actually born in St. Joseph, Missouri. However, during his childhood he lived part time in Detroit. And his 2002 movie “8 Mile” cemented his relationship with the troubled city. The actual 8 Mile is the road that separates Detroit from the cities to its north.

Rochester Hills is nothing like Detroit demographically. It has 73,000 residents. Nearly 90% of the population is white. The median household income is $82,000, which is about $30,000 above the national average. The poverty rate is 5.5%, about a third of the national number. Not exactly the “made in Detroit” image Eminem projects.

The home is huge. 5760 Winkler Mill Road has six bedrooms, eight full baths and three half-baths. The house is 15,129 square feet and sits on a 5.69 acre lot. There is one odd catch. Eminem may never have lived in the house. Realtor.com reports that he paid twice the current asking price when he bought it in 2003.

The listing could not be more sparse:

5760 Winkler Mill Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48306 is a single family home built in 1986. The median sales price for the Rochester area is $290,550. The $1,771,961 estimated value is 319.45% greater than the median listing price of $422,450 for the Rochester area.

The listing also has no photos, just a map that shows how to get there. Based on the map, the house is not even on a body of water. Stony Creek Lake is a few hundred yards away.

The distance to central Detroit: 30 miles, or about 45 minute by car.
