General Electric, Barrick Gold Slip into Thursday’s 52-Week Low Club

March 1, 2018: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 217 equities making new 52-week lows in Thursday’s session. On the NYSE decliners led advancers by about 3 to 2 and on the Nasdaq, advancers led decliners by about the same ratio.

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) traded down about 1.1% Thursday and posted a new 52-week low of $13.95 after closing Wednesday at $14.11. The stock’s 52-week high is $30.54. Volume was about 20% below the daily average of around 88 million shares. The company said today it has plans to build the world’s largest wind turbine. That should turn things around.

Colony NorthStar Inc. (NYSE: CLNS) dropped about 32% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $5.28. Shares closed at $7.78 on Wednesday and the stock’s 52-week high is $14.74. Volume was around 63 million, about 12 times the daily average. The company announced unsatisfying results this morning.

Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX) traded down 3.9% Thursday and posted a new 52-week low of $11.07 after closing Wednesday at $11.52. The stock’s 52-week high is $20.36. Volume was around 28 million, more than double the daily average of around 12.3 million. The company got some good news late in the day. Moody’s raised its senior unsecured debt rating from Baa3 to Baa2 with a stable outlook.

Weatherford International plc (NYSE: WFT) fell about 3.4% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $2.52 after closing at $2.63 on Wednesday. The 52-week high is $7.09. Volume of more than 18 million was about 25% below the daily average. The company had no specific news.
