Monday’s Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

November 19, 2018: The S&P 500 closed down 1.7% at 2,690.72. The DJIA closed down 1.6% at 25,017.61. Separately, the Nasdaq closed down 3.0% at 7,028.48.

Monday was a down day for the broad U.S. markets. Although each of the major averages started out the day only slightly lower, it only got worse as the day went on. Crude oil continued to bounce back after getting absolutely crushed last week. The S&P 500 sectors were almost entirely negative. The most positive sectors were utilities and real estate up 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were technology and consumer discretionary down 3.8% and 2.5%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading up 1.3% at $57.17.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,224.60.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ: NVDA) which fell by about 12% to $144.70. The stock’s 52-week range is $144.63 to $292.76. Volume was 42 million compared to the daily average volume of 12.7 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Fossil Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL) which traded up about 4% at $19.71. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.26 to $32.17. Volume was 1.4 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.7 million.
