Find AAA-Rated Restaurants Now With Alexa, Google Home

March 26, 2018 by Paul Ausick

Long-time auto and leisure travel group AAA for years has published TourBook guides that rank hotels and restaurants to help travelers find a place to stay or eat that is both within their budget and of good quality. Now AAA has added compatibility with voice-control apps Alexa from Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Google Home from Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL).

The full array of more than 31,000 AAA-rated restaurants is available from either Android-based or Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) smartphones with the appropriate app installed and enabled.

Here’s how the new features work:

  • With Alexa: “Alexa, tell AAA to find me a restaurant.”
  • With Google Home: “Okay, Google, tell AAA Restaurants to find me a restaurant.”
  • In both cases “AAA” must be pronounced “Triple A.”

Among the more than 31,000 AAA-rated restaurants are over 50 AAA Five-Diamond Restaurants in the United States and 13 in Canada, Mexico and the Cayman Islands. New York City claims 10 of AAA’s top restaurants, while Las Vegas is home to five, Chicago sports four and San Francisco has three.

AAA’s vice-president and chief technology and digital officer, Ramon Millan, said:

Consumers want information instantly and easily. Voice-based technologies, like Alexa and Google Home, are driving this trend. AAA continues to innovate and promote these exciting new approaches and, in so doing, is meeting and exceeding the needs of AAA members and other consumers alike while providing the most convenient access to Diamond Rated restaurants.
