With the turmoil out of Libya and Bahrain on the heels of North African and Egyptian strife in recent weeks, it is no wonder that $100.00+ oil prices rose and drove gasoline higher. Still, it is always interesting to see where gasoline is the most expensive in the nation at any given point in time.
We took a look at GasBuddy.com and took a snapshot the 27 highest city averages in America. With the super-high taxes in California, it was no shock to see California dominate the highest prices with the bulk of the highest cities being California. Honolulu. Hawaii was also no shock when you consider how everything has to be imported there and it is even expensive to breath in Hawaii. What about elsewhere?
Ankorage, Alaska was also no shock. New York City made the list, another city where even breathing costs money, followed very closely by Chicago. Connecticut made the grade here for highest gas prices as well with the three cities of Hartford, Bridgeport, and Waterbury all on the list (hope you work for a hedge fund there).
On a statewide basis, the highest is Hawaii, followed by 2-California, 3-Alaska, 4-New York, 5-Connecticut, and 6- Illinois. Here is a list of the highest 27 cities based on a snapshot as of 2:00 PM EST today:
