After two consecutive quarterly misses, Amerant Bancorp snapped back with a 35% EPS beat powered by a 9.4% surge in core deposits and provisions that dropped 39% quarter-over-quarter, signaling the Miami-based bank's credit recovery and deposit momentum are finally firing in sync.

Amerant Bancorp reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $0.53, well clear of the $0.3925 consensus estimate and good for a 35% beat. Revenue came in at $100.7 million, edging past the $98.6 million estimate by about 2%. The quarter is a notable turnaround for the Miami-based bank, which had missed analyst EPS expectations in each of the prior two quarters — posting $0.39 against a $0.53 estimate in Q3 2025 and $0.53 against a $0.36 estimate in Q4 2025 before landing exactly on the consensus in Q1 2026.

The twin drivers behind the beat were a 9.4% surge in core deposits and a 39% quarter-over-quarter drop in provisions. Growing core deposits signal that Amerant is attracting and retaining customer funding at a healthy clip, which lowers its cost of capital and reduces reliance on more expensive wholesale borrowing. The sharp decline in provisions, meanwhile, suggests the bank's credit quality is improving — fewer dollars are being set aside to cover potential loan losses, which flows directly into the bottom line.

Looking at the longer earnings history, Amerant's results have been uneven. After strong beats in Q3 and Q4 2024 and another in Q2 2025, the bank stumbled through a volatile stretch before this quarter's rebound. The question for investors now is whether the alignment of deposit growth and easing credit stress represents a durable trend or another swing in what has been a choppy earnings trajectory.
