Illumina reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $1.31, coming in about 6.8% above the consensus estimate of $1.23, and revenue of $1.159 billion cleared expectations of roughly $1.131 billion by about 2.5%. The company credited surging clinical sequencing demand and continued momentum from its NovaSeq X platform for the outperformance, and management felt confident enough in the trajectory to raise its full-year guidance.
The results are notable because they extend what has become a consistent pattern of positive surprises. Looking back over the past eight quarters, Illumina beat EPS estimates in seven of them, with only Q4 2024 coming in slightly below at $0.86 against an estimate of $0.92. That kind of track record suggests the turnaround the company has been pursuing is gaining real traction rather than reflecting one-off factors.

Not everything is clear sailing. Illumina flagged China headwinds and tariff risk as ongoing concerns that investors will want to monitor. How the company navigates those pressures while sustaining NovaSeq X-driven growth will be the key question heading into the second half of 2026.
