About AGNC Investment
AGNC Investment Corp. (Nasdaq: AGNC) is a real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on investing in Agency residential mortgage-backed securities (Agency MBS), which carry guarantees against credit losses from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or Ginnie Mae. Founded in 2008, the company invests on a leveraged basis, financing its Agency MBS assets primarily through repurchase agreements, and employs dynamic risk management strategies using interest rate swaps, U.S. Treasury positions, and swaptions to protect portfolio value from interest rate fluctuations. AGNC also maintains smaller positions in credit risk transfer securities and non-Agency securities. The company operates a captive broker-dealer subsidiary, Bethesda Securities, LLC, which funds a significant portion of its repurchase agreements. AGNC generates income primarily from the net interest spread between its mortgage assets and borrowing costs, supplemented by TBA dollar roll income. Since its 2008 IPO, the company has declared over $16.3 billion in common stock dividends, paying monthly distributions to shareholders. As of Q2 2026, the company managed a $97.2 billion investment portfolio with 7.4x leverage on tangible net book value. Updated
