Gasoline Prices Drop Below $2.50 in 15 Cities
On average, the cheapest gallon of regular gasoline in the United States this Monday morning is available in St. Louis.

On average, the cheapest gallon of regular gasoline in the United States this Monday morning costs $2.389, and it is available in St. Louis. A month ago that gallon of gasoline cost $2.809 on average in St. Louis, according to GasBuddy. If the price falls that much again ($0.42 a gallon), a gallon of gasoline in St. Louis will cost less than $2.00 on New Year’s Day — $1.969 to be exact.
In fact, by New Year’s Day a gallon of gasoline could cost less than $2.00 a gallon throughout the entire state of Missouri, one of eight states we identified as most likely to see gasoline prices fall below $2.00 a gallon as early as the beginning of 2015.
The 15 cities where the average price of a gallon of gas is now less than $2.50 are:
- St. Louis, Mo., $2.389
- Lubbock, Texas, $2.402
- Amarillo, Texas, $2.421
- Santa Fe, N.M., $2.423
- Albuquerque, N.M., $2.442
- Spartanburg, S.C., $2.443
- Sioux Falls, S.D., $2.463
- Oklahoma, City, Okla., $2.463
- Kansas City, Mo., $2.468
- Chattanooga, Tenn., $2.471
- Greenville, S.C., $2.480
- El Paso, Texas, $2.481
- Myrtle Beach, S.C., $2.482
- Fort Worth, Texas, $2.486
- Dallas, Texas, $2.497
Only one state, Missouri, boasts an average price below $2.50 a gallon, but Oklahoma, South Carolina, Mississippi and Texas are close, ranging from $2.511 to $2.529.
