Asia Markets 12/18/2006 Yahoo Japan Up, Japan Tobacco Down

Shares in Asia were modestly higher.

The Nikkei rose .3% to 16,962. Bridgestone was up .9% to 2650. Canon was up .3% to 6720. Daiwa Securities was up .2% to 1338. Fuji Film was up .6% to 4820. Hitachi was down .4% to 718. Honda was up 2.7% to 4360. Japan Tobacco was down 5.2% to 566000 on its bid for Gallaher. NEC was up .7% to 572. NTT was flat at 600000. Sharp was up .2% to 2085. Softbank was down .2% to 2530. Sony was up 2.2% to 5150. Toshiba was 1.3%  to 760. Toyota was up 1.5% to 7490. Yahoo Japan was up 5.8% to 51400.

The Hang Seng rose .4% to 19,193. Cathay Pacific was down 1.2% to 18.98. China Mobile was up 1.9% to 63.15. China Netcom was down 1.9% to 18.8. HSBC was up .3% to 141.8. PCCW was down .4% to 4.78.

The KOPSI was up .8% to 1,433.

The Straits Times was up 1.1% to 2,963.

The Shanghai Composite was up 2.6% to 2,332.
