Thomson (TMS) has come to terms with Reuters (RTRSY) in a deal that will combine the two companies and make them the world’s largest financial information company. Thomson will pay $17.2 billion. The deal has the support of key Reuters shareholders. The company should have 34% of the financial service information market compared to Bloomberg’s 33%.
The two companies expect that the combination will create about $500 million in annual savings.
The deal may put pressure on Dow Jones (DJ) to agree to a buy-out by News Corp (NWS) or find another partner to help give it great financial resources. Its will now be well behind Reuters and Bloomberg in market share.
