The Hang Seng fell 1.9% to 19,924.
The Shanghai Composite plunged 4.3% to 2,786.
At the open in Europe, the FTSE lost 1% to 4,640. The Dax was down 1.2% to 5,189. The CAC 40 dropped .9% to 3,420. HSBC (HBC) fell sharply.
