Goldman Sachs has issued a report that oil prices could rise sharply next year. The usual fears of unrest in Iran and Nigeria are mentioned. However, a new wrinkle is that OPEC production may not make up for large shortfalls.
A Goldman analyst noted “With Saudi producing close to 10 million barrels a day, OPEC will be operating with a very thin layer of spare capacity, making the oil market much more vulnerable to additional disruptions, with supplies from Nigeria being a particular concern.”
