A senior analyst from Fitch, the third credit rating agency, said Italy’s debt could be downgraded two more notches. So far S&P downgraded of nine European nations and the European Financial Stabilty Facility has not increased interest rates or hampered auctions. So, the Italy downgrade may have little effect if it can show its budget gap can be slowly closed
“A downgrade by two notches is one of the possible options,” Alessandro Settepani, senior director for business and relationship management at Fitch in Italy, said.
