The 52-Week Low Club for Thursday

April 7, 2016: Here are four stocks trading with relatively heavy volume among 30 equities making new 52-week lows in Thursday’s session. The day’s NYSE losers led winners by nearly 4-to-1. The ratio of losers to winners was about 2.5-to-1 on the Nasdaq.

Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) posted a new 52-week low on Thursday. Shares traded at a low of $5.71, down about 2.4%, after closing at $5.85 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $8.37. Volume totaled about 30% less than the daily average of around 15.5 million shares. The company said on Wednesday that it plans to cut 1,300 jobs in Finland.

H&R Block Inc. (NYSE: HRB) dropped about 3.2% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $24.61 against a 52-week high of $37.53. The stock closed at $25.42 on Wednesday night. Volume was about 20% below the stock’s daily average volume of around 3.4 million. The tax preparation company had no specific news on Thursday.

HSBC Holdings plc (NYSE: HSBC) fell by about 2.2% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $29.14 against a high of $50.26. The stock closed at $29.80 on Wednesday night. Volume totaled  around 2 million shares, about 40% below the daily average. The bank had no specific news on Thursday.

Conns Inc. (NASDAQ: CONN) dropped about 9% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low at $10.43 after closing at $11.47 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $43.95. Share volume of around 1.3 million was about 30% above the daily average of just over 1 million shares traded. The specialty retailer reported same-store sales down 8.5% in March, not including sales of some discontinued products.
