Frontier Communications, Whiting Petroleum, Ensco Stumble into Wednesday's 52-Week Low Club

June 21, 2017: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 158 equities making new 52-week lows in Wednesday’s session. On the NYSE, decliners led advancers by nearly 2 to 1 and on the Nasdaq, decliners led advancers by about 15 to 13.

Frontier Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: FTR) posted a new 52-week low of $1.12 on Wednesday, down more than 8% compared with Tuesday’s closing price of $1.22. Volume totaled more than 36 million shares, about 10% lower than the daily average of around 41.5 million. The company had no specific news.

Whiting Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: WLL) dropped nearly 10% Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $5.11 after closing at $5.70 on Tuesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $13.39. Volume of more than 28 million was over 50 % higher than the daily average. The company had no specific news, but lower crude oil prices hit this Bakken producer hard.

Ensco plc (NYSE: ESV) dropped more than 9% Wednesday to post a new 52-week low of $4.89 after closing at $5.38 on Tuesday. Volume was around 20 million, about 65% higher than the daily average of around 12 million shares. The offshore drilling company had no specific news.

Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) dropped about 6.5% Wednesday to post a new 52-week  low of $7.67 after closing Tuesday at $8.20. The 52-week high is $16.66. Volume was about 20% higher than the daily average of about 12 million shares. The company had no specific news.
