Falling Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Continues

Short interest during the two-week period ending December 30 fell on all four 3D printing stocks we follow. Trading was less active than in the prior two-week period, with days to cover increasing on shares in three of the four companies.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) fell by 6.3% to 22.1 million shares. Some 20.8% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover rose from 10 to 11. In the short interest period, the share price fell by about 12%. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.00 to $19.76, and shares closed at $15.39 on Wednesday, down about 1.1% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 5.1% in the final two weeks of December to about 5.02 million shares, or 10.2% of the company’s float. Days to cover rose from six to seven. The share price fell by about 13.5% in the two weeks, and the stock closed at $18.77 on Wednesday, up about 0.5% on the day. The 52-week range is $14.48 to $30.46.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) fell by 3.1% to 2.02 million shares. About 18.7% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price dropped about 6.6% in the period. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.60 to $16.15, and shares closed at $10.16 on Tuesday, up 0.1% for the day. Days to cover slipped from 15 to 13.

The number of Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) shares short decreased by 3.9% to 502,121 American depositary shares, with days to cover rising from seven to eight. The share price fell by 12% in the period to December 30. Voxeljet closed at $3.51 on Wednesday, down about 2% for the day, in a 52-week range of $2.82 to $6.50.
