It remains true that without global IP theft laws which apply equally in all countries the piracy of software and premium entertainment content will never end. The fact was brought home by new data that shows software piracy cost the industry $50 billion worldwide last year.
According to TGDaily, “The worldwide PC software piracy rate rose for the second year in a row, from 38 percent to 41 percent, because PC shipments grew fastest in high-piracy countries such as China and India, overwhelming progress elsewhere.”
The world’s two most populous nations either do not have the resource or the will to cut down an the theft Since China controls a great deal of the commerce inside its borders, it seems unlikely that it cannot cut the practice of stealing software buy a significant amount. But, that could upset its balance of trade as more money goes to US companies like Microsoft (MSFT).
