BMW Global Sales Top a Million for First Half of 2014

For the first time in its history, BMW has sold more than a million cars in the first six months of the year. Through June 2014, the company delivered 1.02 million vehicles, up 6.9% year-over-year. Sales in June rose 4.8% to 193,342.

The BMW Group includes the flagship BMW line, the Mini brand and Rolls-Royce. The company sold 886,347 BMW vehicles in the first six months of the year, up 10.2% year-over-year. The best-selling 3 Series saw a sales increase of 7.8% in the first half of the year to 233,438 cars. Sales of the company’s 5 series rose 7.6% year-to-date to 193,560.

The company delivered 1,241 of its i3 electric vehicles in June, bringing the total for the car to just under 5,400 for the year-to-date.

Sales of the Mini are down 11.4% year-to-date at 131,896, but the company expects its new hatchback model introduced in March to push sales higher as the year goes on. The company also sold 1,968 Rolls-Royce cars in the first half of the year, up 33.4% year-over-year.

By geography, U.S. sales rose 5.1% to 220,764 for combined sales of BMW and Mini, and sales in Mexico rose 6.2%. The company delivered 225,035 BMW and Mini cars in China for the first six months of 2014, up 23.1% year-over-year. European sales rose 2.1% for the six-month period to 445,808 BMW and Mini vehicles.
