American Express reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $4.53, clearing the $4.40 consensus estimate by roughly 2.9%. That continued a strong run of beats — the company has topped EPS expectations in seven of the last eight quarters, with only Q4 2025 coming in fractionally short at $3.53 against a $3.55 estimate.

The headline driver was card member spending, which grew 9% — the fastest pace in three years. That kind of acceleration in transaction volume is what underwrites confidence in forward guidance, and management followed through by raising the full-year revenue outlook to 10% growth. Revenue for the quarter came in at $19.637 billion, just a hair under the $19.703 billion estimate, so the top-line miss was negligible at roughly a third of a percent.

The guidance raise is the detail most worth watching. By committing to 10% revenue growth for the full year while signaling a willingness to reinvest gains into growth rather than protect near-term margins, American Express is effectively telling investors it sees the spending momentum as durable rather than a one-quarter spike.
