Amerisafe missed expectations on revenue and earnings in Q3 2026, with adjusted operating EPS of $0.40 against a $0.47 consensus. That marked the fifth consecutive quarter of declining earnings, with no sign of reversing.

The net combined ratio climbed to 96.5% from 90.6% a year ago, leaving almost no cushion before the 100% line where claims and expenses exceed premiums. Loss and expense ratios both widened, and favorable prior-year reserve development shrank.

Revenue slid 2.65% year over year, with operating and net income down by nearly half. CEO G. Janelle Frost pointed to an increasingly competitive market, softer audit premium, and higher expenses weighing on the combined ratio.

Net premiums earned rose 3.0% to $73.3 million, and Frost cited improvement in new business activity late in the quarter. The company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.41 per share, signaling management remains committed to returning capital as underwriting margins compress.

With no quantitative guidance provided and analysts largely cautious, the path to restoring underwriting profitability into year-end remains unclear. Book value per share is down 4.4% since year-end 2025, narrowing the flexibility to absorb further margin pressure.
