Big Tech's AI CapEx Hit $201.9 Billion in Q3 2026, a New Record

As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 1, 2026.

Four of the market's largest cash machines now spend $201.9 billion a quarter on AI buildout, so the free cash flow that funded buybacks and dividends is the line to watch next earnings season.

AI is burning Big Tech's free cash flow: The combined CapEx of Amazon, $AMZN, Alphabet, $GOOGL, Meta, $META, and Microsoft, $MSFT, rose +$36.9 billion in Q3 2026, to a record $201.9 billion. This figure has more than doubled over the last 12 months and is up +356% since Q1 https://t.co/1bDyyin35Y

The combined capital expenditure of Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Microsoft reached $201.9 billion in Q3 2026, according to The Kobeissi Letter.

That $36.9 billion quarter-over-quarter increase is the single largest jump in the dataset, and it lands at a moment when investors are already scrutinizing how much of each company's earnings is actually available to return to shareholders.

Free cash flow is the pool that funds buybacks and dividends, and when CapEx grows at this pace, that pool shrinks at the market's largest cash generators, so the effect is not marginal.

Watch free cash flow conversion next earnings season: how much of operating cash flow survives after the AI buildout bills are paid. A further acceleration in CapEx without a matching rise in revenue would compress that conversion rate and pressure capital return programs.
