Arch Capital crushed revenue expectations with an 11% beat while delivering a 4% EPS surprise, but the headline masks a divergence: Insurance underwriting income cratered to $27 million from $129 million a year ago as catastrophe losses consumed 7.6 points of the loss ratio, even as Reinsurance and Mortgage segments delivered ballast with $410 million and $220 million in underwriting income respectively.

Arch Capital Group posted Q2 2026 earnings per share of $2.56, coming in about 4% above the $2.46 consensus estimate, while revenue of $4.67 billion outpaced expectations by more than 11%. On the surface those are strong numbers, and they extend a revenue trend that has generally climbed from $4.06 billion in Q2 2024 through a peak of $5.39 billion in Q4 2025 before a softer start to 2026.

The story underneath the beats is more complicated. Insurance segment underwriting income collapsed to $27 million from $129 million in the same quarter a year ago, with catastrophe losses alone chewing through 7.6 points of the loss ratio. That kind of pressure is a direct reminder of how exposed the primary insurance book can be to a single active loss period.

What kept the overall result respectable was diversification. The Reinsurance segment contributed $410 million in underwriting income and the Mortgage segment added $220 million, together providing enough ballast to offset the Insurance segment's sharp decline. Investors watching ACGL will want to track whether catastrophe activity eases in the back half of 2026 and whether the Insurance segment can claw back toward its prior-year profitability levels.
