Banner Q3 2026: The Miss Is a Merger Story
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 21, 2026.
The miss is merger math: $5.2 million of Pacific Financial deal costs plus a loss on liquidating the acquired securities book pushed earnings under consensus. Underneath, net interest margin widened year over year with organic loan and deposit growth both accelerating. Systems conversion lands in November, so the cost drag continues.

Banner Corporation reported Q3 2026 non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.51, missing the consensus estimate. Revenue also came in below what Wall Street had expected, and the accounting behind those gaps matters more than the headline numbers.
The shortfall traces almost entirely to Banner's September 1 close of its all-stock acquisition of Pacific Financial Corporation. That deal produced $5.2 million in merger-related expenses plus a net loss tied to liquidating the acquired investment portfolio. Strip those items out and the underlying business was moving in the right direction.
Beneath the deal noise, Banner's core fundamentals strengthened during the quarter. Net interest margin expanded 16 basis points year over year to 4.14%, with organic loan and deposit growth independent of the acquisition.
Systems conversion for the Pacific Financial business is scheduled for November, meaning merger-related cost drag will continue into Q4. Non-performing assets edged up to 0.35% of total assets, worth monitoring as the combined loan book settles. Banner still repurchased shares and declared a quarterly dividend, signaling confidence in its capital position.
