BlackRock TCP Capital reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.15 for the third quarter of 2026, exceeding the consensus estimate of $0.125. Total investment income of $28.48 million also cleared the $27.51 million analyst expectation. On the surface those look like solid beats, but the headline figures obscure a quarter defined by an asset sale instead of operating performance.

The central event was the August 4 completion of a deal to transfer 95% of a Continuation Vehicle, which held roughly $524 million of investments across 78 portfolio companies, to private credit secondaries investor Pantheon. That transaction and other repayments drove total sales and repayments of approximately $681.4 million for the period. The realized losses tied to the transaction reached $74.5 million, which pushed the GAAP net result to a loss of $0.80 per share.

NAV per share fell sharply to $5.61 from $6.58. Net leverage declined to 0.16x from 1.38x as a result of the deleveraging, and available liquidity rose to approximately $511.2 million. Total assets fell roughly 55% year over year to $816.5 million, and total investment income declined 32.3% from the same quarter a year earlier as the income-producing asset base shrank considerably.

The Board declared a fourth-quarter 2026 regular dividend of $0.17 per share, but net investment income for the quarter came in at $0.16 per share, meaning the payout now exceeds what the company earned on its investments. Non-accruals also rose to 3.4% of the portfolio at fair value and 14.2% at cost across twelve companies, and the portfolio's weighted average yield declined to 9.4% from 10.5%.

CEO Jason Mehring said the deleveraging and liquidity build place TCPC on a strong foundation as the Board conducts its ongoing strategic review, which he described as focused on achieving the best possible outcome for shareholders. The company did not provide quantitative guidance, so the direction of the business depends heavily on what the strategic review produces. The Board has also authorized a repurchase plan of up to $50 million of common stock through April 2027, though no shares were repurchased during the quarter.
