Blue Owl Technology Finance reported adjusted net investment income of $0.29 per share for the third quarter of 2026, missing the $0.32 consensus estimate. The company's $0.35 quarterly dividend now runs six cents above what the portfolio actually earned on a per-share basis, raising questions about how long the payout can be sustained without eroding net asset value.

Non-accrual investments jumped to 1.8% of the portfolio at cost from just 0.6% the prior quarter, a sharp deterioration in a single reporting period. Non-accruals at fair value also moved, from 0.1% to 1.1%, suggesting the market is already discounting the value of some troubled loans rather than treating the slippage as temporary or administrative.

On the balance sheet, NAV per share edged up 0.9% to $16.62, partly supported by $55 million of share repurchases that management described as accretive. Total liabilities expanded 43.3% year over year, pushing net debt-to-equity to 0.94x from 0.57x, and interest expense climbed to $117.3 million.

Reported earnings per share have trended from $0.41 in Q1 2025 down to $0.29 in Q3 2026, and the company has now missed or barely met estimates in four of the last five quarters. The lone beat in that stretch, Q1 2026 at $0.29 versus a $0.25 estimate, came when expectations had already been reset lower.

Management pointed to wider spreads in software and technology lending and a 3-month SOFR rate of 4.08% as tailwinds that lift earnings as floating-rate loans reprice. New investment commitments of $441 million were made across 15 portfolio companies during the quarter, and the company raised $900 million of new debt capital. With approximately $2.9 billion of liquidity available and leverage described as sitting at the low end of its target range, the company says it has room to deploy selectively. The pace of new commitments, however, was less than half the $852 million deployed last quarter, so the speed of recovery in investment income will depend heavily on how quickly that capital gets put to work.
