BP's realized indicator refining margin more than doubled year over year, jumping from $11.9 a barrel to $29.6 a barrel in Q2 2026. That windfall powered earnings per share of $2.22, beating the analyst consensus of $1.78 by roughly 25%, while revenue of $69.1 billion cleared estimates of $59.9 billion by more than 15%. The stronger cash generation also allowed the company to lift its dividend by 4% and trim net debt to $22.25 billion.
New CEO Meg O'Neill used the results to signal that a significant restructuring is already in motion. She acknowledged the company has not been making the most of its potential, and the blueprint for improvement includes 700 job cuts and the planned sale of the Castrol lubricants business for $6 billion. Those moves are aimed at sharpening BP's focus and freeing up capital.
