BV Financial (BVFL) Q3 2026: Buybacks Lift EPS Despite Shrinking Loan Book
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 23, 2026.
Buybacks are doing the work here: a weighted average share count down to roughly 7.82 million lifted per-share earnings year over year even as net income fell. The December payoff of subordinated debentures cut quarterly interest expense and raised net interest margin, but the loan book keeps shrinking and non-accruals climbed.

Buybacks, not the business, carried earnings: diluted EPS reached $0.42 for Q3 2026 even as net income fell, with the weighted average share count dropping to roughly 7.82 million. Shareholders who ignore the shrinking share count will misread the quarter.
The December 2025 payoff of subordinated debentures erased $465,000 in quarterly interest expense, and lower compensation costs improved the efficiency ratio and widened net interest margin. The bank is doing more with a smaller base, at least by those measures.
Revenue of $9.76 million was down 26.2% year over year, reflecting a balance sheet that management has been deliberately running off. Net loans contracted 2.96% from year-end 2025, and average loan balances were lower throughout the quarter, which is the core reason net interest income continued to drift lower even as the margin itself expanded.
Non-accrual loans climbed to $3.2 million from year-end 2025, a move that bears watching as the loan book shrinks and any single credit has an outsized effect on the portfolio. The GAAP earnings figure also absorbed 2024 Equity Incentive Plan expenses, which the company separately disclosed as a drag on the reported number.
