A portfolio restructuring that swapped low-yielding securities into higher-rate paper is already paying off: the net interest margin expanded to 4.53%, and third-quarter 2026 earnings per share of $2.55 beat expectations.

Community banking drove the beat, with loan growth of 9.6% year over year feeding the margin gains. Mortgage banking added to it, with originations rising in the quarter and year to date in a more favorable 2026 rate environment.

Auto payment deferrals in the consumer finance segment climbed to 2.05% of average auto loans, and management flagged that continued deterioration in loan performance will push credit loss provisions higher. The marine and recreational vehicle portfolio is in runoff, shifting the mix toward auto loans.

The company opened a loan production office in Lynchburg, Virginia during the quarter, following a similar move into the Roanoke market in 2025. A quarterly cash dividend of $0.48 per share was paid on October 1, and the 2026 share repurchase program remains active after a quiet quarter.
