Calumet (CLMT) Q3 2026: Specialty Shortage Fuels a Blowout Quarter
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 6, 2026.
Calumet just posted its first real profit quarter after seven straight of losses or near-breakeven, with specialty products EBITDA tripling to $248.1 million on a global shortage in that market. Management has been retiring high-cost debt since July, so the earnings power is going straight at a balance sheet that still carries negative equity.

Calumet posted earnings of $2.91 per share in Q3 2026, beating the consensus estimate of $1.80 and marking the company's first genuinely profitable quarter after seven consecutive periods of losses or near-breakeven results. Revenue came in at $1.68 billion, beating the $1.34 billion analysts had expected and rising 56% from the same period a year earlier.
The engine behind the beat was the Specialty Products and Solutions segment, where adjusted EBITDA vaulted to $248.1 million from $80.2 million a year ago. Management credited a global shortage in specialty products along with what it called strong commercial execution, with SPS margins expanding to 23.2% from 11.8%. The Montana/Renewables segment also contributed meaningfully, generating adjusted EBITDA with tax attributes of $110.6 million, up from $17.1 million, as Montana Renewables completed its first full quarter operating under the SET2 RVO framework.
The headline numbers carry significant non-cash offsets that investors will want to separate out. GAAP net income included an unrealized derivatives loss of $113.8 million and non-cash RINs-related charges of $176.7 million. Those items pushed year-over-year net income down 12.8% even as operating income climbed 40.5%, so the underlying cash generation picture looks considerably stronger than the bottom line alone suggests.

Calumet has been directing that earnings power straight at its leveraged balance sheet. Since July, the company retired over $265 million of high-cost debt, including a full redemption of $100 million in 9.75% 2028 Mirror Notes and a subsequent redemption of $150 million in 9.75% 2028 Notes in late October. Shareholders' equity remains deeply negative at roughly negative $870.7 million, so debt reduction is the central financial story to follow in coming quarters.
Looking further out, management is advancing a capital-efficient MaxSAF expansion that targets approximately 200 million gallons of annual sustainable aviation fuel production and 17,000 barrels per day of total product sales by year-end 2028. CEO Todd Borgmann said the strong quarter is "converting this earnings power into lasting shareholder value" and that the deleveraging and growth strategy is "accelerating by years." The key variables to monitor are specialty product market conditions, RIN price volatility, and execution on the MaxSAF timeline.
