Carpenter Technology posted GAAP earnings per diluted share of $3.25 for fiscal Q1 2027, beating expectations and extending its streak of EPS beats to four consecutive quarters. Revenue came in below what analysts had anticipated, a gap management attributed to timing dynamics across end markets.

The bottom-line strength was driven by the Specialty Alloys Operations segment, which expanded its adjusted operating margin excluding surcharge revenue to 37.7%. Operating income for the company overall rose year over year, which CEO Tony R. Thene called the most profitable first quarter in the company's history.

Aerospace structural and distribution bookings climbed 49% year over year, with engine OEM customers accelerating activity to support new builds and elevated MRO work. Thene noted that customers in those sub-markets have increasing confidence in the aerospace industry's ability to ramp production.

Management held its full-year FY2027 operating income outlook of $850 million to $880 million and reiterated its FY2029 target. Thene said the company is actively working on specific actions to exceed both targets, citing strong and accelerating macro trends with additional upside to demand, pricing, and productivity.

For Q2 FY2027, Carpenter Technology expects operating income between $192 million and $197 million. Capital expenditures rose year over year, reflecting ongoing investment in the brownfield capacity expansion project designed to support that longer-term demand growth, and the company also repurchased shares during the quarter under its buyback program authorized in August 2026.
