Cass Information Systems beat expectations in the third quarter of 2026 with adjusted earnings per share of $0.81, and the composition of the quarter matters more than the size of the beat.
A 17.2% jump in average dollars per traditional freight invoice pushed transportation dollar volumes higher and lifted both net interest income and financial fees. Net income from continuing operations rose 16.1%, so the modest top-line slip year-over-year carries little weight.
The board raised the quarterly dividend to $0.34, payable December 14 to shareholders of record as of December 4. CEO Martin Resch described recent CassPay and Facilities client wins, combined with higher transportation and facility dollar volumes, as presenting an enviable outlook for continued growth in assets, net interest income and financial fees.
Management warned that operating expenses will accelerate in Q4 2026 and into 2027 as two large new CassPay clients onboard, alongside rising costs tied to AI-enabled technology depreciation, licensing, profit sharing, and health insurance. Average CassPay deposits already grew 29.2% in the quarter, so the pipeline is real and so is the near-term cost drag.
The current beat streak follows misses in Q4 2024 and Q2 2025, and it rests on rising freight rates rather than one-time items, which gives the trend more credibility than the earnings history alone would suggest.
