Celanese raised its full-year free cash flow outlook to $750 million to $800 million, the real signal for a company carrying heavy net debt. Acetyl Chain pricing carried the earnings beat even as revenue missed expectations.

Celanese posted adjusted EPS of $1.65 for the third quarter, beating expectations, while revenue of $2.56 billion came in missing expectations. Profit held up even as sales fell short.

The Acetyl Chain segment drove that efficiency, with sales up 14% year over year on pricing favorability and incremental spot market opportunities. Engineered Materials sales slipped 1% year over year, weighed down by the divested Micromax business and sequential declines in automotive demand, with growth in medical and electronics applications cushioning the impact.

The free cash flow guidance raise matters most for holders here. Management lifted its full-year 2026 free cash flow outlook to a range of $750 million to $800 million and reaffirmed adjusted EPS guidance of $6.00 to $6.25. With net debt at $10.2 billion, cash generation outweighs any single quarter's top line.

CEO Scott Richardson said Celanese expects to have generated more than $1.5 billion in free cash flow over the two years through year-end 2026. The pending sale of an additional 19% stake in the Nutrinova joint venture to Mitsui closes in the fourth quarter.

Management flagged seasonal softness heading into Q4 across both segments, so the near-term earnings trajectory is unlikely to accelerate. An Investor Event on December 9, 2026 will detail long-term strategy, growth pathways, and value creation priorities.
