Cigna reported adjusted earnings per share of $7.98 for the third quarter of 2026, beating expectations, with revenue also ahead of estimates and higher than the same quarter a year ago. The result extended the company's run of consensus-topping quarters to five in a row.

Cigna Healthcare pre-tax adjusted income climbed 15%, lifted by premium rate increases and higher net investment income, and the Evernorth arm's Specialty and Care Services segment also posted a 15% profit gain on growing adoption of biosimilars and specialty generics. Those gains provided meaningful cover for a drop in Pharmacy Benefit Services adjusted income, which management attributed to large client contract renewals.

On the strength of the quarter, management raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EPS floor by $0.15 to at least $30.60 per share. The company also set long-term targets of 10% to 14% adjusted EPS growth through 2030, alongside a projection of cumulative operating cash flow over that same span.

Underpinning that long-range confidence is a $3 billion multi-year modernization program the company calls Accelerate to One, aimed at driving productivity and reducing costs. Year to date through November 4, 2026, Cigna repurchased shares, signaling continued capital returns alongside the investment push.

One headwind worth monitoring is the planned exit from Individual and Family Plans medical business as of January 1, 2027, which will reshape the membership mix going into next year. GAAP net income fell from a year earlier, largely because the prior-year period included a gain on sale that did not repeat. Investors will want to track how the Pharmacy Benefit Services margin holds up as the new client contract economics take full effect.
