Cincinnati Financial reported third-quarter 2026 non-GAAP earnings per share of $2.86, beating expectations by about 36%. Revenue also came in ahead of estimates.

The 18% year-over-year revenue decline is almost entirely investment-gains math, as net investment gains compressed to $20 million from $853 million a year ago. Earned premiums and investment income both grew, leaving the underlying insurance business intact.

The consolidated property casualty combined ratio came in at 90.9%, a sub-100 reading that signals profitable underwriting even as catastrophe losses climbed year over year. Prior-year reserve development added a cushion, and the nine-month combined ratio sits inside management's long-term target range.

Specialty segments added to the growth story, with Cincinnati Re net written premiums up 34% in the quarter and Cincinnati Global premiums also higher. Those units, alongside Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters, are part of a deliberate diversification push that CEO Stephen Spray credited directly in his remarks: 'This quarter is a nice example of the impact our many growth, profitability and diversification initiatives are having on our insurance business.'

The dividend rose 8% year over year to $0.94 per quarter, extending a streak that management says now spans 66 consecutive years of increases. Statutory policyholders' surplus also grew, giving the company the capital base to sustain both growth investments and that dividend record.
