City Holding's West Virginia banking franchise posted what management called a record quarter, with diluted earnings per share of $2.43 ahead of the consensus estimate and revenue edging past expectations.
Net interest margin expansion drove the outperformance, widening to 4.04% in Q3 on better loan yields and average loan balance growth. Net interest income climbed sequentially as a result.
Credit quality stayed exceptionally clean, with nonperforming assets steady and net charge-offs running at just 0.01% annualized, allowing the bank to record a small recovery of credit losses. Fee income also contributed, led by wealth and investment management fees.

The Board paired the strong results with a 15% dividend increase, lifting the quarterly cash payment to $1.00 per share from the prior $0.87. The dividend was declared with a record date of October 15 and a payment date of October 30, 2026.
Not everything moved in the right direction. Non-interest expenses rose 6.8% year over year on salary adjustments and higher health insurance costs, and the efficiency ratio deteriorated. Unrealized securities losses also pushed the tangible equity ratio lower, a detail worth monitoring if rate conditions shift further.
Looking at the longer earnings history, City Holding has beaten consensus estimates in eight of the past nine quarters, with Q4 2025 the lone quarter missing expectations when reported EPS came in at $2.18. The Q3 2026 result extends what has otherwise been a consistent pattern of positive surprises from this community banking franchise.
