Earnings per diluted share of $13.91 beat expectations, the sixth consecutive quarter the company has topped Wall Street on both earnings and revenue, a streak that has pushed the stock into a different conversation than most mechanical contractors.
The headline figure investors are focused on is the backlog, which reached $17.81 billion as of September 30, 2026, up from $9.38 billion a year earlier. Sequential growth alone was $3.8 billion in a single quarter. That kind of visibility, driven heavily by data-center and technology-infrastructure clients, means the revenue pipeline now extends well into 2027 without requiring a single new contract win.
Net income climbed to $489 million, roughly 68% higher year over year, with operating cash flow crossing $1 billion in the quarter. CEO Brian Lane called that cash flow performance "remarkable."
Capital expenditures of $210.6 million for the quarter signal that management is expanding capacity to absorb the growing workload rather than harvesting margins. The board also raised the quarterly dividend to $1.00 per share.
Management's outlook is pointed squarely at continued organic growth, high profitability, and solid cash flow through year-end 2026 and into 2027. With a backlog nearly double what it was twelve months ago and operating leverage showing up in the numbers, the company appears to be compounding its advantage in a demand environment Lane described as "relentless."
