Credit Acceptance Q3 2026: Record Dealers, but a Forecast Change Stings
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 29, 2026.
A change to loan cash-flow forecasting cut expected collections on 2022 through 2026 vintages and pushed provisions to $410.9 million, turning the quarter into a GAAP loss of $5.43 a share despite the adjusted beat. Unit volume rose and active dealers hit a record, so the growth engine is intact while the back book gets marked down.

Credit Acceptance posted adjusted EPS of $13.01 for the third quarter of 2026, beating expectations, with revenue missing expectations.
The headline GAAP result was a net loss of $5.43 per diluted share, driven by a change in the company's loan cash-flow forecasting methodology that lowered expected collections on Consumer Loans originated from 2022 through 2026.
Beneath that charge, active dealers rose 18.8% to a record 12,093, and the company completed a $600.0 million asset-backed financing at the lowest credit spreads since late 2021.

CEO Vinayak Hegde attributed the volume gains to a four-part strategy centered on customer obsession, segmentation, data and AI, and disciplined operating practices. Interest expense fell 7.8% on a lower average cost of debt, supporting the adjusted earnings beat.
Investors must judge whether the markdown of the 2022 through 2026 loan vintages is a one-time reset or a signal of deeper credit stress in the non-prime auto market. The record dealer count and rising unit volumes show originations accelerating, while the pace at which the back book stabilizes will shape how the market prices the stock.
