Cummins cuts full-year guidance on North American pickup truck weakness

As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on November 5, 2026.

We have updated our full-year revenue and profitability guidance primarily due to continued weaker than expected pickup truck demand in North America, which impacted our third quarter and is expected to persist through the end of this year.

Cummins just tied its full-year guidance cut to a single soft spot: North American pickup demand, where its engines go into Ram trucks. Management expects that weakness to run through year-end, so the fourth quarter carries the same drag rather than a rebound.

Jennifer Rumsey, speaking on Cummins' third-quarter earnings, made clear that the guidance revision came from a concentrated source: North American pickup truck demand came in weaker than the company expected, and that shortfall was large enough to move the needle on both revenue and profitability for the full year.

The read-through for investors is that demand, rather than execution, drove the revision. Cummins supplies engines for pickup trucks, so when that segment underperforms, there is little the company can do operationally to offset it. The drag is external and tied to end-market consumer behavior.

Rumsey's forward guidance did not signal a recovery before year-end. The weakness that hit the third quarter is expected to persist through December, meaning the fourth quarter carries the same headwind rather than offering a natural reset.

With the stock showing no movement since the quote, the market's initial reaction was muted, but the lack of a rebound signal from management leaves the fourth quarter as the key period to watch. Any shift in North American pickup truck order trends would be the first indicator that the pressure is easing.
