The FTSE 100 closed at 13,946, a gain of 0.46% on the day, with buyers fading in the second half as the index drifted back from its intraday peak.

Germany led European equity markets, with the DAX finishing up 1.07% and comfortably outpacing both London and Paris. That left the FTSE 100 roughly in the middle of the three major European benchmarks.

For dollar-based investors rotating into European equities, the day's dispersion is worth noting. A broad Europe trade would have captured the DAX's strength, while London and Paris lagged. Index and country selection mattered in a way a single European ETF would have obscured.

The FTSE 100's strong open and fade into the close is a pattern that reflects caution ahead of the following day's macroeconomic calendar. The net advance was real, but the late-session give-back leaves follow-through to be tested at tomorrow's open.
