Management says that without durable California wildfire reform, Southern California Edison will ask for less growth capital in its 2029 rate case. That lands alongside a fifth straight quarter of topping EPS estimates, with revenue missing expectations and 2026 core guidance intact.

Edison International posted adjusted core earnings of $1.92 per share in Q3 2026, beating expectations, and reaffirmed full-year core guidance with management signaling a bias toward the middle of that range.

Revenue of $4.89 billion came in missing expectations, and the year-over-year comparison looks especially steep because the prior-year quarter included a retroactive true-up when Southern California Edison implemented its 2025 General Rate Case final decision, a one-time boost that made the year-ago base unusually high.

The wildfire reform warning matters more to investors than the EPS beat. CEO Pedro J. Pizarro stated directly: 'Without durable wildfire reform in place, SCE would request less capital than it otherwise would for projects that enable electrification, the clean energy transition, and economic growth.' That warning ties directly to a capital plan calling for roughly $38 to $41 billion in spending from 2026 through 2030.

Pizarro also said the company was disappointed when California's legislative session ended without action on a long-term solution and acknowledged that capital markets reacted visibly. Elevated credit spreads are already raising financing costs, and the company cited a credit rating downgrade below investment grade as a live risk.

The 2029 General Rate Case filing is expected in about six months, making the next legislative window in Sacramento a critical milestone. If wildfire liability reform remains stalled, the scale of that filing, and by extension the pace of Edison's rate base growth, shrinks.
