Encompass Health posted adjusted EPS of $1.52 for the third quarter of 2026, beating expectations. That extends a streak of beats that now stretches back eight consecutive quarters.
Volume and pricing both moved higher: total discharges rose 5.7% to 69,605, with roughly equal contributions from same-store growth and new facilities. Net patient revenue per discharge climbed, so the company is capturing more revenue per patient even as volume expands.
Labor efficiency amplified the top-line gains, with salaries and benefits falling to 52.2% of revenue and contract labor headcount declining. The one wrinkle was bad debt, which rose after a billing system conversion; management guided that figure back down in the fourth quarter.
