Continent-wide buying pressure lifted London at Friday's open, with the FTSE 100 adding just over 0.9%. The DAX in Frankfurt and the CAC 40 in Paris each rose more than 1% at the same time.
A synchronised lift across London, Frankfurt, and Paris at the open tends to establish a positive tone for US futures before New York traders arrive, so the move echoes well past European trading hours.
London equities had retreated steadily from above 14,200 to the 13,800 range heading into Friday. Friday's open is the first meaningful recovery off that lower base, so investors will be watching whether the index can sustain the gain through the session.
