Contract customers now drive 76.5% of sales, and that mix is what sellers focused on despite beats on both lines. Fastenal also trimmed its 2026 FASTBin/FASTVend signing goal to 27,000 to 29,000 devices, the first crack in a growth story the market had already paid up for.

Fastenal beat Wall Street on both lines in Q3 2026, with revenue up 15.5% year over year. Contract customers drove it, with sales rising 18.8% to 76.5% of total revenue.

Operating margin expanded 90 basis points to 21.5% on SG&A leverage from labor productivity and fixed cost absorption. Heavy manufacturing daily sales rose 20.2% and non-residential construction grew for the sixth consecutive quarter, pointing to durable demand.

The full-year FASTBin and FASTVend device signing target was cut to 27,000 to 29,000 weighted MEUs from 28,000 to 30,000. Automated inventory devices are how Fastenal deepens its grip on contract customers, so shares slipped roughly 3% in the immediate aftermath.

Gross margin faced modest pressure as customer mix shifted toward larger accounts, with price and cost dynamics shaving a further share. Winning bigger contracts carries margin trade-offs investors will want to track as contract customers take an even larger share of revenue.

Fastenal maintained full-year capital expenditure guidance at $310 million to $330 million, reflecting its Atlanta hub replacement, elevated IT investment, and increased trucking costs. The question is whether device signings reaccelerate or the trimmed target marks a softer trend.
