Fifth Third Bancorp reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.13 for the third quarter of 2026, beating the consensus estimate by nearly 38%.

The full $850 million Comerica expense synergy run-rate is locked in for the fourth quarter, with the systems conversion completed and client and banker retention holding. Deposit share gains have followed in the Southeast and in Comerica's home markets of Michigan, Texas, and California.

Revenue of $3.28 billion came in missing expectations, as late-quarter market volatility slowed M&A advisory and loan syndication activity. Net interest income still rose 3% sequentially on fixed-rate asset repricing and loan growth.

Management guided fourth-quarter net interest income up 2.5% to 3.5%, with adjusted noninterest expense falling as the full Comerica synergies flow through. Credit quality is guided to remain stable.

The rebound to $1.13 per share from a weak first quarter shows how quickly the combined bank has reached normalized earnings power. The locked-in synergy run-rate keeps that trajectory running into year-end.
