Franklin Financial Services posted diluted earnings of $1.89 per share in Q3 2026, beating expectations on a structural shift in funding costs. Lower deposit costs pushed net interest margin to 3.58%, lifting net interest income 11% year-over-year.
Net income came in at $8.54 million, a 59% jump from the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue also came in above estimates, helped by a reversal of provision for credit losses on loans that was partly offset by a provision on unfunded commitments tied to a nonaccrual commercial real estate construction loan.
The quarter's momentum fed directly into shareholder returns. The board declared a fourth-quarter dividend of $0.34 per share, a 3% increase from the comparable prior-year payout, signaling management's confidence in the sustainability of the margin improvement.

The risk investors need to hold alongside that confidence is credit quality. Nonperforming loans doubled to $17.8 million since year-end 2025, concentrated in three nonaccrual commercial real estate loans to two borrowers. Elevated CRE exposure and widening unrealized securities losses mean the balance sheet carries more embedded stress than the headline earnings figure suggests.
Q3 2026's $1.89 stands well above the prior four quarters, and the bank has been consistently outpacing estimates since Q1 2026. The doubling of nonperforming loans in a single year is the variable that will determine whether the margin story holds in coming quarters.
