GATX reported Q2 2026 earnings per share of $2.84, clearing the consensus estimate of $2.46 by roughly 15%. That result also marks a sharp improvement from the $2.06 the company posted in Q2 2025, with the Wells Fargo Rail acquisition credited for driving profit 47% higher year over year. It is the biggest beat in the eight quarters shown in the company's earnings history, standing out in a stretch where GATX had mostly edged past estimates by narrow margins — and even missed once, in Q3 2025.

On the revenue side the picture was more mixed. GATX brought in $580.1 million against an estimate of roughly $598.8 million, falling short by about 3%. That gap suggests the top line has not yet fully reflected the scale of the acquisition, even as profitability has jumped. Investors will likely watch whether subsequent quarters close that revenue miss as the acquired fleet is integrated.

Despite the soft revenue print, management was confident enough to lift full-year guidance to a range of $9.90 to $10.30 per share. That upward revision signals that the earnings momentum from the Wells Fargo Rail deal is expected to continue through the back half of the year, and it gives the market a clearer sense of how much the acquisition is expected to contribute to annual results.
