Gentex Q3 2026: Missed on Both Lines With More Cost Pain Ahead
As seen on the 24/7 Wall St. homepage on October 23, 2026.
Cost relief at Gentex is a 2027 story, so the pressure stays on through next year: an extra $10 million to $15 million of cost increases hits in Q4, with recoveries not expected until the first half of next year. The quarter missed expectations on both lines, and management still backs a 2027 outlook of $2.80 billion to $2.90 billion.

Gentex missed expectations on both earnings and sales, posting adjusted earnings per share of $0.47 for the third quarter of 2026 against a $0.50 consensus estimate. Customer disruptions and delayed vehicle launches drove much of the revenue shortfall.
Gross margin narrowed to 33.4% from 34.4% a year earlier, squeezed by elevated precious metals costs and reduced operating leverage on weaker sales volumes. Management trimmed full-year 2026 gross margin guidance to a range of 34.0% to 34.5%.
China was the sharpest regional drag, with automotive revenue there collapsing 44% year-over-year. North America grew and outpaced regional light vehicle production, while the VOXX Premium Audio subsidiary and non-automotive revenue as a whole expanded.
The cost headwinds are not clearing quickly: management expects an additional $10 million to $15 million in cost increases in Q4 2026, with recoveries not anticipated until the first half of 2027. Full-year consolidated revenue and capital expenditure guidance were both brought down.
Gentex maintained its 2027 revenue outlook of $2.80 billion to $2.90 billion even as global light vehicle production in its primary markets is expected to decline that year. CEO Steve Downing pointed to higher content per vehicle, new product launches including a fourth-generation Full Display Mirror and a dimmable visor slated for late 2027, and ongoing diversification as the foundation for that longer-term acceleration.
