Gorman-Rupp delivered adjusted earnings of $0.86 per share in Q3 2026, beating expectations. Sales grew year over year on volume gains across every end market the company serves, including agriculture, construction, fire suppression, and industrial.
Gross margin expanded 420 basis points to 33.4% in the quarter. Operating leverage on higher volumes was the primary driver, compounded by the non-recurrence of facility optimization costs that weighed on results a year ago.
Debt reduction added another layer of profitability improvement, with interest expense falling after the company paid down $58.0 million in debt through the first nine months of the year. Total liabilities contracted while shareholders' equity grew, reflecting a balance sheet that is getting meaningfully cleaner with each passing quarter.
CEO Scott A. King pointed to incoming orders and backlog as the indicators to focus on heading into Q4. Backlog stood at $236.8 million as of September 30, 2026, and incoming orders for the first nine months of the year rose. Demand that drove the record quarter has not faded.
Capital expenditures for the full year are planned at $22.0 to $24.0 million, signaling continued investment alongside the debt paydown. The combination of a cleaner balance sheet, expanding margins, and a healthy backlog positions the company to carry its record-setting streak into the fourth quarter, though management flagged trade policy, raw material costs, and currency fluctuations as the risks worth monitoring.
